A former Windsor resident is making a hefty donation to the Big Brothers Big Sisters of Windsor Essex Foundation.

Dave Wilson, who now lives in Dublin, Ireland, is giving $300,000 for the organization to enhance its Jefferson Ave. property and programs.

"The men and women who are Big Brothers, Big Sisters, mentors, and those who work for and serve on committees and boards are the inspiration for this donation", says Wilson.

He says he is particularly impressed with the volunteers and staff leading the Windsor-Essex branch.

The money will go towards a parking lot expansion to accommodate new staff and students on placement, a large pavilion to allow for more outdoor activities for the after school group and summer group programs and upgrading the property's landscaping.

Half of the donation will be used to enhance current and future programing, which will allow the agency to serve more children in the community.

"This is a once in a lifetime opportunity for the foundation and agency,” says Hayley Morgan, foundation executive director. “Dave's generous gift will provide countless opportunities for us, our volunteers and the children and families who benefit from our mentoring programs.”

It isn’t Wilson’s first large donation to the local agency. He and his brother Sandy gave $20,000 to the in 2013.

A ribbon cutting and reception to mark the completion of the property improvements is scheduled for National Big Brothers Big Sisters Day on Sept. 18, 2015.
