Construction continues inside the old downtown Windsor Armouries where the University of Windsor School of Creative Arts will soon be.

Workers are digging out a new basement inside and making sure things are ideal for musical acoustics once the shovels are put away.

“By the time we're done with this stage there will be a full new story below what used to be a slab on grade at ground level," says Architect Craig Goodman.

Karen Engle, director of the School of Creative Arts, says she's excited about the opportunity to be downtown.

"We have really specific needs because we have so much different kinds of media being used and so the architects have been extremely responsive and really great to work with," says Engle.

Officials expect students to be learning on site by September 2017.

The former Tunnel Barbecue site has been leveled next door.
