The Windsor/Essex County Humane Society says a former starved dog has gained 32 pounds and is going to a new home.

The shelter sought the public’s help in April to solve a serious case of animal cruelty. Officials say Wilson was found starved and left tied to a fence in the middle of the night.

The case is still open and the person responsible has not been identified.

Humane society veterinarian Dr. Aimee Seguin says there was no medical reason for Wilson’s emaciated condition, other than forced starvation. He gained almost nine pounds in his first week at the shelter and has now almost doubled his body weight, gaining 32 pounds.

James and Cathy Demars are adopting Wilson. They picked him up at the humane society’s adoption centre Friday morning. He will have a new canine sibling named Cooper.
