If you’re looking for a flu shot in Windsor you may have to do some leg work in order to find one, even though thousands remain available.

The Windsor-Essex Health Unit tells CTV News there are more than 6,000 shots ready and available for local pharmacies, doctors and walk in clinics. However, of the 10 locations CTV called Wednesday, six said they were all out of flu vaccines.

“We got 30 injections and we've had a steady flow through the last few months but we're out of our injections at the moment,” says pharmacist Michael Belleisle.

And yet Belleisle says he won't be putting in an order for more flu vaccines.

“It doesn’t seem to be any different than previous years,” he says.

So if you call your local pharmacist or family doctor and they don't have any vaccines, Medical Officer of Health Dr. Allen Heimann says don’t worry.

“Wednesday we received our vaccines from the province,” says Heimann. “We filled 115 orders yesterday and another 50 this morning.”

There are 6,000 vaccines available here in Windsor-Essex.

Heimann says we are nowhere near outbreak status. That was the situation in 2009, when the region had more than 420 cases in one flu season. This year we are only at 156 cases and the season is almost over.

Heimann is still urging residents to get the shot.
