The Windsor-Essex County Health Unit has issued a level 1 heat alert for Monday through until Wednesday.

A level 1 heat alert is issued whenever the forecast predicts a humidex value reaching 40. In this case, humidex values are expected to reach 40 or higher for three days.

The Windsor-Essex County Heat Alert Response Committee and the health unit is urging residents to stay cool and drink plenty of water.

Environment Canada says sweltering weather gripping much of southern Ontario is forecast to stick around for a few more days.

The weather service says hot and humid conditions that have sent temperatures into the low 30s are moving into south central Ontario after cooking the province's southwest.

An advisory has been issued for a stretch from the Niagara region to the Toronto area, as humidex values are set to hit 40 degrees. Niagara, Toronto and London were all also under heat alerts Sunday.

Environment Canada says there's little relief from the heat forecast for the coming days, while the humidex warning may also be expanded to more parts of the province.

It says a weak cold front forecast to arrive in the middle of the week may break the heat.
