Farmland property assessment has risen an average of 16 per cent per year in the province since 2012.

The Municipal Property Assessment Corporation started mailing out notices to farmers last week.

Officials with MPAC say levels near Windsor and parts of Essex County have risen by as much as ten per cent annually for the last four years.

They blame the uptick on real estate activity which has been picking-up.

MPAC conducts a province-wide assessment update every four years and has this year provided an online map which shows changes to the assessment.
