Two family dogs are being credited for alerting their owner to a house fire Tuesday night.

Laurie Ledoux is giving her dog Mystique some extras treats, hours after her house was engulfed in flames. Ledoux was in her bedroom sleeping, when her smoke alarms started going off, but she was sound asleep.

"Mystique started hearing the alarm and started going crazy just scratching at me. Barking at me, pulling around," says Ledoux.

Suddenly she came to and jumped out of bed. Doing the first thing she could think of, she grabbed her two dogs and pushed them through the window.

“"It sounds like I had the fire department in my house; every single alarm was going off. It was blaring," she says. “I'm calling 911 and asking them to hurry up and rescue me, my house is on fire and I'm stuck in the window."

Crews arrived to her home at 1633 Olive Rd around 12:42 a.m. Ledoux was rescued from the bedroom window, and sent to hospital for minor smoke inhalation.

The fire is believed to have started in the main floor living room on or around the sofa. Damage is estimated at $150,000. However, investigators say the damage was so extensive, an exact cause cannot be determined.

“I’m glad to be alive. I’m upset I’ve lost everything, but I’m alive."
