The Essex County Library Board says it has presented its “final offer” to CUPE Local 2974.0

The library board and union held mediated discussions for several hours on Friday, in hopes of ending a strike by 58 full and part time library staff.

“We have presented what we consider to be our best and final offer” said Essex County Library Board Chair, Richard Meloche.

“We believe it is a fair agreement for employees and one that we hope that CUPE will seriously consider, so that we can return library services to our communities” added Meloche.

The strike has lasted more than 150 days, as the workers have been off the job since June 25th.

“This has been a difficult past few months for all of us” admits Meloche.

A change in the County’s sick time policy has been an ongoing issue during negotiations.

CUPE spokesperson Lori Wightman tells CTV Windsor they are "disappointed" with the board's actions, and they will meet to discuss what their next step will be.

Wightman notes the sick time policy still remains an issue for union members.

Friday was the first of three days that had been set aside for the bargaining. The meetings on Monday and Tuesday have been cancelled.
