South Windsor resident, Ron Nugent wasn’t surprised to hear the news of a tornado in the area after seeing the damage to his home following Tuesday night’s storm.

"It just started to sprinkle we went down into the basement and within 5 seconds the whole house shook completely."

Investigators with Environment Canada were in Windsor and Essex County on Thursday assessing damage and talking to witnesses.

They determined two tornadoes were in our area.

Meteorologists say there have been 15 tornadoes so far reported in the province, breaking the average of 12 per year.

Trudy Kidd from Environment Canada credits the public and social media for help. "It's a great thing to verify our forecast and watches and warnings with the help of storm spotters."

Officials report the wind gust between 90 to 130 kilometers per hour.

The clean-up continues for property owners like Nugent, who was thankful for help from city workers who cleared away some of the trees. "These guys did come and clean up these trees right away. They were great."
