Windsor police are investigating after a two-year-old boy was sent to hospital with serious injuries after getting struck by a car in the west end.

Police say it took place around 3:15 p.m. Thursday in the 500 block of Brock Street.

"We thought it was two cars that hit,” says neighbour Victoria Hall. “All of a sudden I heard all this commotion, kids screaming mother screaming."

Hall lives around the corner from where the young boy, her cousin, was struck.

"I ran over there and seen the little boy, laying on the ground,” says Hall. “His dad picked him up, he looked lifeless. His head was a mess. I ran over, called my husband he came over and said a prayer for him."

Police, Windsor fire and EMS responded to the area and attended to the child.

Officers spoke to several witnesses and located the 81-year-old female driver of the 2003 yellow Pontiac Sunfire involved in the accident.

Investigators say the Sunfire was travelling south in the 500 block of Brock Street when the child suddenly came out onto the roadway.

The boy was brought to Windsor Regional Hospital Ouellette Campus by ambulance to be examined and treated. He was then transferred to Detroit Mercy Children's Hospital for treatment.

Police say he is in critical, but stable condition.

No charges have been laid and the investigation is still ongoing.
