A 75-year-old Oshawa man has been charged after police say he was caught driving the wrong way down Highway 401 in Tecumseh.
OPP were called Monday at approximately 10:45 p.m. to the 401 for a report of a vehicle heading eastbound in the westbound lanes at a high rate of speed.
Several officers from Essex County OPP as well as Chatham Kent OPP responded. Police say the traffic was quite heavy on Highway 401 at the time.
Officers utilized several traffic halting techniques and eventually brought the suspect vehicle to a stop just west of Essex County Road 42 in Lakeshore.
The suspect was not injured, but one OPP officer received minor injuries.
No other vehicles were involved and no one else was hurt in the incident.
He was charged with careless driving and drive while under suspension. He will appear in a Windsor court at a later date to answer to the charges.
