Chatham-Kent OPP say a driver who was clocked going 159 km/h on Highway 401 has also been charged with impaired driving.

Around 8 p.m. on Thursday, police were called for a complaint about a Ford Fusion travelling very fast on the westbound 401 in Elgin County.

A Chatham-Kent OPP officer who was conducting radar enforcement in the area registered a speed of 159 km/h in a 100 km/h zone.

The officer stopped the vehicle near Orford Road in Chatham-Kent, and spoke with the driver.

Police say further investigation found that the driver was also impaired by drug.

As a result, 47-year-old William Hewlett of Windsor has been charged with driving while ability impaired and race a motor vehicle.

His driver’s licence was suspended and the vehicle impounded for seven days.

He is scheduled to appear in a Chatham court on July 18th.
