Tax rates in the Town of Amherstburg could see a significant hike.

Town councillors heard a preliminary report during Tuesday night’s council meeting that would see tax rates increase dramatically in order to balance the books.

Chief administrative officer, Mike Phipps told councillors that a forecasted double digit property tax increase could assist with eliminating the town’s financial issues.

“It’s not a pretty situation,” says deputy mayor Ron Sutherland.

The town’s next council meeting is Jan. 20, with budget deliberations taking place on Feb. 10.
