The company responsible for tabulating results for three Essex County municipalities is providing some insight into why there was a major delay in providing the outcomes.

In an email to CTV Windsor, Scytl’s general manager says there were inconsistencies with the naming of certain election results files. Brian O’Conner says the company had to manually audit the anomaly.

“While these additional measures required extra time to deliver the elections results, our first priority is to ensure the integrity of the election and deliver results to our clients of unquestionable accuracy,” O’Conner said in a statement.

Results in Kingsville, Leamington and Tecumseh were expected to roll in by 8:30 p.m. on Monday, but didn’t become available for several hours. This was the first year all three municipalities offered online voting.

In the hours leading up to 11 p.m. and ultimately the results, residents in those municipalities took to social media to vent their frustrations about the delay.

“Scytl sincerely apologizes for the delay in the distribution of the results from yesterday’s municipal election and we thank the municipalities, local candidates, media, and voters for their patience and understanding.”

Incumbent mayors Gary McNamara, John Paterson and Nelson Santos were all re-elected in their respected municipalities.
