A hazmat situation has turned into a dead body investigation in a grocery store parking lot in south Windsor.

A police robot entered the SUV at the centre of the incident at the Real Canadian Superstore 4371 Walker on Friday.

Fire officials confirm there was a dead body in the vehicle. A coroner attended the scene Friday afternoon.

Windsor police said there was no immediate threat to the public.

Windsor fire officials were telling the public earlier Friday to stay away from the parking lot because of concerns there were fumes coming from the vehicle.

A large section of the parking lot was taped off for the investigation involving the dark-coloured SUV.
