Windsor police are looking for witnesses after officers say a 68-year-old woman riding her bicycle was hit by a car door and injured.

Officers were called to Windsor Regional Hospital at 6:40 p.m. Wednesday for a report of an injury from a motor vehicle accident. They talked with the cyclist in the emergency room.

Police say the victim suffered broken bones in her neck and a cut to the right side of her neck. She also experienced temporary paralysis to her right arm. The injuries are considered non-life-threatening.

The woman told police she was riding her bicycle earlier in the day when the operator of a parked vehicle opened the driver’s door. The cyclist apparently struck the door and was injured.

It happened northbound in the 1200 block of Monmouth at approximately 2:20 p.m. Wednesday.

A passerby stopped and called an ambulance and also called the victim's sister. The victim was transported to hospital by ambulance.

Police say the victim’s sister went to the scene and spoke with the woman who had opened the car door. She recorded her first name and licence plate information.

Officers went to the home of the registered owner of the vehicle with negative results. Police have not been able to speak to the owner of the identified vehicle.

It is believed several people were in the area when the incident happened, so police are looking for witnesses to step forward.
