Custodial staff have ratified a deal with the Greater Essex County District School Board.

The vice president of Cupe Local 27 says on Sunday, nearly 200 members voted 94 per cent in favour of the five-year deal, which is retroactive to 2014.

Jeffery Ducharme says negotiations dealt with a long standing issue of post-retirement benefits.

Ducharme says anyone who has retired since 2013 will receive a cash compensation of $2000 a year for up to 30 years of work.

Workers who were employed by the public school board before Nov. 30 are also eligible for the package when they retire.

Trustees have also accepted the deal.
