Windsor police say there was a noticeable drop in accidents and injuries in July, compared to the month before, during a campaign targeting red lights and stop signs.

Accidents dropped by 22 per cent while accidents involving injuries dropped by 39 per cent.

Windsor police Sgt. Matthew D’Asti says “It’s a hectic pace and people are in a hurry. Day to day people are in a hurry to get to work or their destinations. People need to be cognizant, there is no room for complacency on our roadways.”

A combination of media attention, enforcement and education is being credited with the decrease.

D’Asti adds “[People] need to take that extra step and a stop sign is a stop sign is a stop sign. And that means you bring your vehicle to a full stop, look both ways and when it’s safe to do so, enter the intersection.”

Police laid over 300 charges in July in relation to stop signs and red lights.

Here is how the accidents in July compared to those in June:

  June 2013 July 2013
Fatal injuries 0 0
Non-fatal injuries 100 61
Property damage 292 250
Non reportable 21 14
Totals 413 325

But the best news, according to police, is that there were no fatal accidents in the last month.
