Residents and politicians are calling for action, following reports of falling debris from the Canadian side of the Ambassador Bridge.

What appears to be fallen debris could be seen beneath the Ambassador Bridge Monday afternoon. A long time bridge-area resident says falling debris is just part of a bigger on-going safety problem.

"We've been dealing with this kind of problem for many, many years and you just have to watch the streets and you see the concrete falling," says Terrence Kennedy.

Windsor West MP Brian Masse says Windsor is one of the only border crossing jurisdictions that doesn't have a bridge authority to oversee safety concerns. He’s now pushing the federal government to take action.

“The International Bridge and Tunnel Act was passed to deal specifically for the most part with the Ambassador Bridge and under that act the minister does have capability of acting and unfortunately the minister is not acting," Masse says.

However, Transport Canada officials say the bridge is up to code. The federal authority says the Ambassador Bridge Company has complied with mandatory two year safety inspections – with the last taking place in 2013.

CTV News put calls out to the Ambassador Bridge Company and the Canadian Transit Company, but they have not yet been returned.

The next review by Transport Canada is scheduled for 2015
