Large plumes of smoke could be seen in Windsor Thursday afternoon from a commercial fire on Detroit’s west side.

The fire was at an abandoned factory that fills an entire city block at the corner of Martin Street and Wagner Avenue, a few blocks north of Interstate 94.

Police shut down Wagner to keep traffic away from the area.

Because it is an abandoned building, the Detroit Fire Department was reportedly letting it burn out, but Hazmat crews are on scene.

Residents in the area were being asked to close their doors and windows as thick smoke poured toward nearby homes.

However, there have been no evacuations and there are no reports of injuries so far.

There is no word yet on what might have caused the fire.
