The health unit has issued a cold weather alert for Windsor-Essex.

According to Medical Officer of Health, Dr. Allen Heimann, temperatures are forecast to hit lows of – 18 C overnight Wednesday, Thursday and Friday. As a result Heimann issued the cold weather alert.

Heimann says if exposed to these extreme temperatures for a prolonged period, it could cause frostbite or hypothermia.

At the same time, Environment Canada has lifted their snowfall warning for Windsor-Essex and Chatham-Kent.

The weather authority increased their forecast amounts for snowfall since Tuesday, saying 15 cm to 20 cm of the white stuff could accumulate in the area. Environment t Canada says the heaviest parts of this system will fell during the morning hours.

This winter wallop is a result of a low pressure system tracking from Southern Ohio to New England.
