The Windsor-Essex County Health Unit has issued a cold weather alert for the region.

Dr. Allen Heimann says temperatures are forecast to hit -22 C Monday night, which doesn’t include the wind chill factor.

Environment Canada predicts a low of -22 C Tuesday and a low of -16 C for Wednesday and Thursday.

As a result, Heimann says the cold weather alert will remain in effect until Thursday afternoon.

At the same time, the Chatham-Kent Health Unit has also issued a cold weather alert.

Prolonged exposure to these frigid temperatures can cause hypothermia or frost bite.
