Essex fire officials estimate damage at $225,000 following a home fire in Colchester.

A single-story dwelling was fully engulfed when crews arrived to the scene in the 100 block of Park Street after 9 a.m. Wednesday morning.

The tenant, who was at home at the time, escaped without injury.

The cause is being listed as accidental.

Fire Chief Rick Arnel says the fire started in the garage where the tenant was working on an engine.

He says gasoline spilled, then ignited, spreading flames to the building.
