Officials with Environment Canada who have been keeping an eye on the skies say they’re shaking their heads in disbelief by the amount of rainfall.

Climatologist David Phillips says “it’s almost monsoonal.”

Check out our photo gallery of the storm damage here.

Phillips says the amount of rain is typical of a tropical storm.

About 85 millimeters of rain fell at Windsor Airport. Tecumseh town officials reported 190 mm falling in Tecumseh on Thursday.

It’s expected the rain may fall for fifty hours before the system moves off on Saturday.

With the area already experiencing a months’ worth of rain in one day – Phillips urges people to use caution.

Phillips says damage from the rain will no doubt cost money.

He only hopes it doesn’t cost any lives.
