Windsor is losing some of its military reservists and the reason has to do with jobs.

A local group of civilians has been working to try to fix the problem.

Master Corporal Renee Mitchell has been a reservist with the Essex and Kent Scottish regiment for more than 13 years. She says getting a full-time job can be a challenge.

“It's very mentally demanding and physically demanding as well," Mitchell. "There's nothing for infantry guys which is what most of the guys are around here."

She says the civilian group Delta Company recently helped her husband find work.

"They did get him a job within the factories," says Mitchell.

The Essex and Kent Scottish is a reserve regiment, meaning soldiers work regular jobs and do soldiering on a part-time basis.

"In order to maintain the strength of regiment, we need to get them employment locally," says Dave Woodall, Officer Commanding of Delta Company.

But according to Delta Company, that has been a challenge in recent years.

“We've lost some to the Western Provinces primarily and some senior officers and we don't want to see that," says Woodall.

In order to fix the problem, Delta Company has started its hire program. It's an effort to connect reservists who need jobs to employers who need workers.

Delta Company is made up of more than 50 civilians who provide support to the regiment. They've been reaching out to businesses and making presentations at local association meetings.

Delta Company also hopes the connections will eventually improve the skilled trades shortage in Windsor.
