Boots sparsely line the hallways at St. Rose Catholic School, more chairs sitting empty than full, but while schools across the county were losing valuable class-time, students here didn't skip a beat.

The tech-savvy grade 8s at St. Rose are part of a pilot project, giving each student a Chromebook loaded with learning applications. Teacher Laurie Clement says with this technology snow days don't happen.

“Typically, when you have these snow days, it almost feels like a wasted day,” says Clement. “By 6:05 a.m. the email went out, the entire day's work was on our e-learning calendar."

So even though only half the class was able to make it through the snow, the other half took an English lesson from the comfort of their homes.

To communicate with her students, Clement uses Google Hangout – a virtual conference call. With this, Clement can conduct lectures, take questions, and even take attendance.
