A safety blitz in Chatham-Kent on Thursday pulled 12 vehicles off the road for having serious safety infractions.

Officers from Chatham-Kent police and Ministry of Transportation traffic units performed a joint-forces safety blitz targeting commercial vehicles operating in the area.

Officers inspected 19 vehicles in total, their loads and driver's qualifications.

Overall, 23 charges were laid and 12 vehicles were taken out of service.

Chatham-Kent police say safety inspections will continue to be conducted on a regular basis.
