A Chatham-Kent alcohol processor has landed a major financial investment.

On Wednesday, GreenField Specialty Alcohols Inc. announced a $40 million investment in its Chatham Plant. The money will be used to fund a number of capital projects at the facility.

“The Chatham plant has come a long way since its commissioning 17 years ago,” said plant manager Angelo Ligori. “Over that time, we’ve built a very good working relationship with the people of Chatham-Kent and Mayor Hope.”

The capital money will upgrade the industrial alcohol distillation system, add the installation of a heat recovery system, and add a five-megawatt cogeneration system. These upgrades will transform the facility into a bio-refinery and state-of-the-art technology demonstration hub.

“It builds on our strengths as an agricultural community and it leads the way in the innovative development of green technologies,” stated Chatham-Kent Mayor Randy Hope.

“GreenField’s long term commitment to Chatham-Kent shows our community is a very progressive place to do business.”
