Due to the heavy snow Sunday and expecting it to carry over into Monday, Chatham-Kent has declared a snow emergency.

The municipality is prohibiting vehicles from parking on the streets and roads from 11 p.m. Sunday until 4 p.m. Wednesday.

Officials say the Chatham-Kent works department needs to clear the streets and roads for emergency vehicles, citizens and local businesses.

“We are asking for the support of motorists to make every effort to move their vehicles off all municipal streets and roads,” a news release says.

The order will be rescinded as soon as road conditions warrant to limit the inconvenience to residents.

Police have been dealing with multiple calls due to the snow Sunday.

Windsor-Essex also has its challenges.

Environment Canada meterologist Mark Schuster says by Monday morning, Windsor-Essex will be hit with 20 to 30 centimetres of snow.

Cold temperatures are also a concern.

"We are anticipating the wind chills will get ot minus 20, minus 25 over night into monday morning. So if anyone is outside they should try and bundle up," he says.
