A series of raids in Chatham-Kent corn fields has led to a major marijuana seizure.

Police have confiscated 440 marijuana plants from 15 farmers' fields in the region. The street value is estimated at $440,000.

Ten officers took part in the raids over the last two days. That includes about 35 in marijuana plants found in a field in Tupperville on Monday.

The pot, likely planted in the spring, ranged in height from four to seven feet. Police acted on information provided by the public and local pilots.

Officers say it is usually planted in corn fields and retrieved just before the corn is ready to harvest, often without the farmer's knowledge.

The marijuana eradication isn't over, according to police.

Farmers are urged to call police or Crime Stoppers if suspicious plants are found in their fields, as this is the harvest season for marijuana.
