Chatham-Kent police are investigating an assault that's being described as a hate crime.

The alleged incident took place on May 6th near West St. in Chatham, as a 13-year-old boy was was approached by four youths roughly 14 to 16 years old.

Police allege the youths called the boy names based on his sexual orientation and eventually pushed him to the ground and kicked him.

He sustained minor injuries as a result of the assault.

Police are asking anyone with information to contact them.
