Highway 401 westbound was closed for several hours overnight after three tractor trailers were involved in a collision near Chatham.

The crash occurred near Queens Line just after midnight as traffic came to stop to allow the removal of a broken down vehicle.

Two tractor trailers were stopped in traffic when, according to Chatham-Kent OPP, a third crashed into the back of one of the stopped trucks pushing it into the other stopped truck.

As a result police have charged a 56-year-old male from Brampton with careless driving. He also sustained minor injuries in the collision.

The other two drivers were not injured in the collision. Police described the damage to two of the tractor trailers as major.
