A careless driving charge has been laid in connection to a fatal collision involving a mobility scooter.

Emergency crews responded to a collision on June 11, around 1:30 p.m. in Blenheim. Police say a Chevrolet car collided with a mobility scooter at the intersection of Chatham Street North and Hannibal Street.

Jennie Verbeek, 41, of Blenheim was driving the scooter and suffered life-threatening injuries. Verbeek was rushed to hospital where she succumbed to her injuries.

Following an investigation police have charged a 33-year-old Buxton man with careless driving.

Police have not released his name, but he is scheduled to appear in court July 15, 2015.
