Charges have been dropped against a Leamington man accused in a fatal 2012 crash that killed two teens.

The Crown say charges against 20-year-old Johan Bergen Jr. were dropped after careful examination  of evidence and it’s correlation with the law.

Bergen was charged with two counts of dangerous operation of a motor vehicle causing death and two counts driving with a blood alcohol concentration exceeding the legal limit causing death.

“After completing a thorough review and, in consultation with the police, the Crown determined that there was no reasonable prospect of conviction,” Brendan Crawley, spokesperson for the Ministry of the Attorney General. “Accordingly, the charges against the accused were withdrawn.”

The charges were levied in connection to a collision on Coatsworth Road and Herman Line in Tilbury, on Feb. 5, 2012. Jake Fast, 18 and Frank Wiebe, 17, both from Leamington died in the collision.

At the time, police said a car had left the roadway, crashed into a ditch and became engulfed in flames.
