Both Catholic and public school boards in Windsor-Essex are reporting increases from the latest Education Quality and Accountability Office assessment.

The Windsor-Essex Catholic District School board says the latest EQAO tests show improvements in five of six categories.

Catholic board officials say averaged results from all of their elementary schools show improvements ranging from one to four per cent in reading, writing and mathematics from the 2013/2014 school year.

The provincial average for Grade 3 students sits at 70 per cent in reading, 78 per cent in writing and 67 per cent in mathematics. WECDSB report increases by one per cent in reading to 69 per cent and an increase of one per cent in writing to 81 per cent. However the board saw a two per cent fall in mathematics, landing at 68 per cent.

For Grade 6 the provincial average is 79 per cent in reading, 78 per cent in writing and 54 per cent in mathematics. Catholic board students posted a four per cent increase in reading to 79 per cent, a three per cent increase in writing to 81 per cent and a two per cent increase in mathematics to 60 per cent.

The Greater-Essex County District School Board is reporting a similar trend with increases in four of six subjects.

GECDSB Grade 3 students achieved a one per cent increase in reading, coming in at 63 per cent, a two per cent increase in writing at 72 per cent and no change in mathematics, remaining at 65 per cent. Grade 6 students posted a one per cent increase in reading to 74 per cent, a three per cent increase in writing to 72 per cent, but a two per cent decrease in mathematics to 55 per cent.
