There are 15 countries and more than 130 teams, all chasing the dream to hoist the 2016 CARHA hockey world cup.

The countdown to Windsor, Tecumseh and LaSalle hosting the tournament is on.

Opening ceremonies are on Sunday April 3.

"It's a little more of an active vacation,” says Gordon Orr, CEO of Tourism Windsor Essex Pelee Island. “They might have some ice time, but at the end of the day they're going to experience what the region has to offer."

TWEPI officials are eager for 2500 recreational hockey players to come to the Windsor area.

The tournament lasts a week, with all players staying in the region, filling five hotels and giving a healthy boost to local tourism.

“They're going to be looking for things to see and do during their off time when they're not on the ice," says Orr.
