One person was taken to hospital after Leamington firefighters put out a blaze at a house on Marlborough Street.

Fire Chief Chuck Parsons says the fire was caused by careless cooking. He says damage was estimated at $140,000.

Parsons says the only person in the house was cooking with oil and he tried to put out the fire by throwing water on it.

OPP in Leamington had closed Marlborough Street West between Erie Street South and Fox Street while crews worked on the blaze. The streets are now open.

Fire officials say the fire was out around 10:45 a.m. Tuesday morning.
