It could be a bright future for the Windsor Assembly Plant if one industry insider is correct with his prediction.

Haig Stoddard, an analyst for WardsAuto Information Products, says Chrysler's next generation minivan will be built in Windsor.

There's been much speculation about the future of the Windsor-built minivans, but Stoddard says he's confident he has the inside scoop.

“I think it will be good news for Windsor because they are bringing in a new product as well as redesigning the current minivan offerings there," says Stoddard.

Stoddard says Chrysler's next minivan will be a Town and Country brand, therefore retiring the less expensive Dodge Grand Caravan. He says the company will also launch a Cross Utility Vehicle. He believes both will be made in Windsor.

"The Windsor plant shouldn't be in any type of danger as long as they can stay somewhat cost competitive and make money of the products they build there," says Stoddard.

WardsAuto says the new vehicles will be phased in over 2015 and 2016. It's a prediction CAW Local 444 President Dino Chiodo hopes is correct.

"I'm confident that we are definitely there, where we need to be, in order to build the premiere mini-van for the world," says Chiodo.

In an email, a Chrysler Canada spokesperson would only say "we have not future product plans to announce at this time."

Chiodo says he's not concerned about the length of time it's taking the company to announce its plans.

"They explained it to us in bargaining, they want to keep their cards close to their chest and wait to the last minute to announce their new product so none of their competitors can start putting in place what Chrysler is going to providing as a future product," says Chiodo.

While the prediction is positive for the Windsor plant, the auto analyst admits the situation could still change.

“It doesn't mean they can't change their minds, but I think right now their plan is to go ahead with the redesigned minivan and the CUV," says Stoddard.
