Chatham-Kent police say a 40-year-old Merlin woman is facing charges after a boy was ejected through a window of a vehicle during a crash Thursday morning.

A five-year-old boy was seriously injured after the two-vehicle collision near Blenheim. Emergency crews responded to Middle Line near Allison Line around 8:30 a.m.

Police say the boy suffered a cut to the head, but it is not considered life-threatening.

A van was travelling on Middle Line towards Blenheim when police say the driver lost control, crossed the centre line and was struck by an on-coming vehicle. The child was ejected from the vehicle, say police.

The child was transported via ambulance to the Chatham-Kent Health Alliance for medical attention. He was then transferred to the London Health Sciences Centre for further medical treatment.

Total damage was estimated at $15,000.

The driver of the van, a 40-year-old Merlin woman, is facing charges of failing to ensure a child is properly secured and driving with improper tires.
