A customs and border protection boat crew pulled the bodies of two Michigan men from Lake Erie.

Crew members found the men near the Enrico Fermi nuclear power plant about seven miles offshore around 10:50 a.m. Thursday, according to U.S. Coast Guard officials.

They were identified as Godfried McKinney, 54, of Southfield, Mich., and Kendrick Covington, 64, of Detroit. The bodies were transferred to a local coroner.

The Monroe County dispatch notified a watchstander at the coast guard station in Toledo, Ohio around 4:45 a.m.

McKinney's wife had contacted the dispatcher and reported her husband and Covington did not come home after a fishing trip. She hadn't seen her husband since about 9 a.m.

Several coast guard boats and CBP crews from Canada and the U.S. searched the area for hours. Responders from the Monroe, Frenchtown and Erie Township fire departments and the Monroe County Sheriff's Department also assisted in the search.
