It was the tale of two schools as School Board Trustees voted to close one high school and to save another Tuesday evening.
The St. Clair College Sportsplex was packed as residents came to have their voices heard before Board members made their decisions.
By a vote of 5-4 Trustees voted in favour of closing Harrow High to the disappointment of many in the crowd. The class of 2016 will be the last one to graduate.
Students and parents were left visibly emotional following the meeting.
Some students say they’re planning to not show up at school Wednesday. Instead they will head to Villanova High School in the Catholic Board in protest.
The eventual closure means students will be bused to Kingsville High, and Harrow Public School will become a J-K to Grade 8 school.
While Harrow High may be closing it was not the end for Western Secondary School. Board members voted unanimously to keep the school open.
However, it does not mean the school won’t close in the future.
The board is looking at a plan to close Western along with General Amherst and to then apply for money to build a new school.
The proposed new school would handle students from both locations.
