A water warning has been downgraded for Pelee Island, as a blue-green algae bloom dissipates.

After nearly two weeks, Pelee Island beaches have reopened and several private wells have been given the all clear.

In news release issued on Tuesday afternoon, the Windsor-Essex County Health Unit says the closures have been downgraded to an advisory. However, Dr. Allen Heimann says a risk for skin and eye irritation stills exists for swimmers.

On Aug. 26, the health unit issued the warning to Pelee Island residents due to risks to water quality.
