A proposed big box development near Ojibway Park is one step closer to reality.

At a marathon Windsor city council meeting on Monday night, councillors supported the redevelopment of property at Sprucewood Avenue and Matchette Road. It’s a decision that comes after much opposition from residents and some environmentalists.

As part of the deal, the city will acquire 10 acres of property from Coco Paving, which will be extended into Ojibway Park.

The Ministry of Natural Resources recently examined the request and approved a permit under the Endangered Species Act.

Ward 4 councillor Alan Halberstadt was the only councillor to vote against the move, which he calls a damaging decision.
