Windsor will soon have a storefront bakery in the downtown.

At a news conference Thursday morning, the Downtown Windsor Business Improvement Association announced that Sunrise Bakery would be opening up a location on University Avenue East. The bakery will neighbour Booster Juice and G&G Jewellery.

"For the first time in about 30 to 40 years, we will have a bakery with fresh bread in downtown Windsor," says DWBIA chair Larry Horwitz.

The bakery will offer fresh bread, cakes, cookies and muffins daily. It took nearly a year of negotiating to convince owner Ali Bazzi to set up shop downtown.

Bazzi decided to take the plunge as part of the Rental Recruitment Campaign. If a business signs a five year lease, the DWBIA will pay 50 per cent of the tenants rent, or up to $625, for the first year.

Sunrise Bakery is scheduled to open its doors by the end of September.
