The first load of peas have been dumped on the line, as production restarts at the Bonduelle plant in Tecumseh.

About 50 full time and seasonal employees reported back to work on Wednesday at 12 p.m., only five days after a fire ravaged the food processing plant.

Officials estimate 12-million pounds of food was lost in the Friday blaze, which caused approximately $40-million in damage to the Bonduelle warehouse.

What caused the fire is still not known, but an on-scene investigation by the Ontario Fire Marshal’s Office has been completed.

Both full time and seasonal workers have received reassurance from the company, who is offering top-ups on employment insurance and payment on time missed.

NDP leader Andrea Horwath will be in Tecumseh on Friday, to speak with Mayor Gary McNamara.
