Chatham-Kent police say a babysitter confronted an intruder, causing him to flee after a break-in Thursday night.

Officers say the man entered a home on Gray Street through an unlocked window around 6 p.m. When confronted in the kitchen by the homeowner’s babysitter, the man fled on foot.

After an investigation, officers identified the man. He was found on Princess Street around 10 p.m. and taken into custody.

The 33-year-old Chatham man was charged with break and enter and possession of property obtained by a crime under $5000. He has been held in custody pending a bail hearing.
