A Windsor law firm has developed a free app designed to give local drivers step-by-step advice if they get into an accident.

Goldstein Debiase Manzocco is calling it the Smart Driver App.

"We found in our practice, people tend to panic,”says personal injury lawyer Monica Pathak. “Car accidents are a very stressful situation, people don't know what to do and they're very upset.”

Pathak says more can be done than getting the other driver’s contact information.

"There's nothing out there that would give them guidance at the scene of an accident that would be helpful to them," says Pathak.

She says the app assists drivers with easy to follow tabs, including a smart cam that includes a list of specific photos to take.

"It also eliminates all uncertainty as to what physical evidence you need to get at the scene, such as damage to your vehicle, skid marks, what the street looked like," says Pathak.

A tab for all medical information is featured, along with a witness voice recorder.

“Witnesses are extremely powerful in helping police investigate at who was at fault,” says Pathak. “It's key in providing that information to insurance companies so your premiums don't go up."

The app is available on Android and Apple smartphones to all Windsor-Essex County residents.

So far it has received positive reviews, with 1,000 downloads since it debuted two weeks ago.
