Councillor John Sutton brought forth a motion at Monday night’s council meeting seeking an external audit.
Ratepayers are facing a potential double-digit tax increase due to decades of reported poor bookkeeping.
Sutton says the community deserves to know how the town’s financial issues came about. “There's lot of rumours, there's lots of allegations so I believe having an auditor coming in taking a deeper look at things, specifically the development charges and the reserves and why they are in so much in arrears.”
Sutton says he doesn’t think any money is missing, but rather funds were mismanaged.
Budget Deliberations begin February 10th.
