The Town of Amherstburg held it's last of four budget meetings Saturday.

The meetings were introduced so that residents may ask questions before budget deliberations begin next week.

The proposed 9.26 per cent tax increase, which includes two three per cent levies, also comes with a number of cuts. The cuts include funding for the Amherstburg Santa Claus parade.

The town provides funds of $10,000 to the parade, which costs about $50,000 to run.

The decision doesn't sit well with some residents who say they want to see the cuts distributed fairly among community events.

To be singled out, to be the lone cut from the tourism budget as such, when we live here and we work so hard to ensure that this is a quality event, is extremely disappointing to us," says Maggie Durocher of the Windsor Parade Corporation.

"Are we angry? Yeah, I think a little bit."

Council budget deliberations begin in April.
