An Amherstburg staple and Boston Marathon qualifier will hold its final race this year.

Organizers announced Wednesday morning that the final race for the World Alzheimer’s Day Run for Heroes Marathon will take place at the end of the month. Chris Uszynski says the cost to put on the event was just too much.

“With a heavy heart we have decided to not continue the marathon race due to extraneous costs involved in producing the event in Amherstburg,” Uszynski stated.

Now in its eighth year, the marathon offers a 42 km, 10 km, 5 km and half marathon. Uszynski is hopeful he can continue some aspects of the race.

“We hope to continue to produce the half marathon, 10 km and kid’s events in future years.”

The Run for Heroes Marathon will take place on Sept. 21.
